From Observation to Creation

A visual journal of people, places, and possibilities.

My art begins with paying attention. Across the places I’ve lived and visited, drawing and photography have helped me notice small details and stay with moments I might otherwise pass by. Over time, I began to explore not only what I saw, but what I could imagine—from familiar faces and streets to imagined scenes and interactive worlds.

Part I Echoes

      – The places I carried with me

Growing up across different countries, I often found myself beginning again in unfamiliar places. Through drawing and photography, I began to notice the details that made each place distinct. Slowly, unfamiliar surroundings became familiar, and I found pieces of each place to carry with me.

 Beyond the Archway

 18” x 12”, 2024

An unfamiliar street makes me wonder what lies beyond the next archway. This painting reflects the curiosity I bring to new places: a desire to look closer, wander farther, and discover what I might otherwise miss.

Photography

Places/ Travel/  Hometown Clips

When I travel, I usually start by taking too many pictures. But my favorite photographs are often the ones I hadn’t planned to take. They come when I linger a little longer: two people sharing an umbrella, someone working behind an open doorway, an ordinary moment I almost walked past. Through photography, unfamiliar places begin to feel familiar as I notice the everyday lives unfolding around me.

Part II Perspectives

- The stories I discovered through people.

I became interested in the moments people reveal without realizing it: a quiet expression between a father and son, a swimmer caught between strokes, or a child turning back while everyone else keeps moving forward. Drawing lets me stay with these moments and study them slowly; photography asks me to notice them before they disappear. Both have taught me to look a little longer.

PEOPLE / RELATIONSHIPS / MOMENTS

A gesture. A pause. A glance back.

What draws me in is often a small detail that leaves a story unfinished. I want to give that detail room, allowing viewers to wonder what someone is thinking, what came before, and what might happen next.

Part III POSSIBILITIES

- The ideas I chose to bring to life.

For a long time, my art began with what I saw: a street, a face, a moment I wanted to remember. Gradually, I began to imagine scenes beyond my everyday surroundings. What would a room look like if all my interests could share one space? What might an ancient figure say to an artificial intelligence? Could a drawing become a world someone else could explore? These questions led me to experiment with imagined scenes and interactive worlds, giving shape to ideas I could once only picture in my mind.

BEYOND LIMITS

Color Pencil Drawing,14"*17",2023

Watching Paralympic athletes challenged my assumptions about ability. Through this drawing, I wanted to celebrate their strength and determination, and explore how much more we can see when we look beyond our first impressions.
